Meet Amanda

amanda Tyler mindfulness teacher

Amanda Tyler is an HCPC-registered educational psychologist with over 28 years’ professional experience and a longstanding interest in meditation and mindfulness. Her own meditation journey began while travelling in Asia and New Zealand in the 1990s, and she has maintained a regular Tibetan meditation practice since 2006.

Her interest in the evidence base for secular mindfulness led her to explore how mindfulness could be integrated with psychological practice. In 2016, she completed a three-year University of Exeter qualification in Competence in Teaching Mindfulness-Based Courses, recognised as the gold standard by the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA).

Amanda is committed to ongoing professional development and follows BAMBA’s Good Practice Guidelines. She brings together her psychological expertise, personal meditation practice and mindfulness training to offer an approach that is accessible, trauma informed and evidence based.

Please note that at the moment teaching mindfulness is unregulated in the UK but BAMBA only recognises and approve the highest level of appropriate training.

Amanda’s mindfulness teaching builds on her experiences of practicing and teaching mindfulness meditation over the last two decades and she brings curiosity and empathy to her sessions and adapts them to your pace and needs. Over the years she has taught numerous 8 week courses and continues to teach with the Sharpham Trust (an internationally recognised centre for mindfulness retreats in Devon). Amanda has worked as a trainer for Mindfulness in Schools Project, training teachers to teach mindfulness to children.

She brings her skills and experiences into her 1-2-1 sessions.

Amanda is passionate about teaching mindfulness to others as she has experienced first hand the impact in her own life. As well as supporting her with day to day stresses she has been able to use mindfulness at times of significant bereavements and ill health, including staying with what has happened rather than escalating the emotional experience through catastrophising thinking. In particular Amanda is very grateful for having a mindfulness practice and for the positive impact on her in terms of appreciating life through using compassion and gratitude practices.
